Cornwall Trip - Day 8
Had a bit of a lie-in this morning, after yesterday's exertions. About noon went out for a short stroll down to Polstreath beach. Spent about an hour there wandering around, looking at rockpools, building cairns, staring at the sea, listening to the waves etc. until the rising tide forced me to make my way back up the 199 steps to the top of the cliff. Walking back down to the village I stopped for a breather and got chatting to an elderly local gent about the weather (of course) and Mevagissey's fishing fleet ("when I was a lad you could walk right across the harbour on the decks of the fishing boats").
Went back to the cottage for some lunch and to clean my walking shoes. Then out again for a dusk-time stroll around the harbour. It was high tide and the sea was only within about a foot of the top of the quayside. Had a pint of Betty Stogs at the Harbour Tavern, which is quite lively around this time in the afternoon (5pm) with fishermen and other locals.
After dinner, went down to the Fountain, but it was very quite (only me there some of the time), so only stayed for one pint.
