St Mawes

Cornwall Trip - Day 13

Woke up around 8:00am and lay in bed watching the sun rise over the peninsula on the other side of the river. However, as forecast, the wind is really up and it is high tide. The water is nearly up onto the road, and some waves are breaking over the jetty wall. The St Mawes Ferry has been cancelled. Soon it starts raining heavily, so I decided to have a bit of a lie-in and a lazy morning.

The sea calmed and wind died down after midday, and once the rain had largely stopped I went out to get some bread from the tiny bakery on the quayside. Then had a stroll around the village - first eastward around to Freshwater, then back down into the village for a coffee at the View Cafe (to make use of their WiFi). After that I went continued west along the shore to St Mawes Castle. Then return to the cottage for tea.

Brackley Cottage

Feeling quite settled-in to Brackley Cottage now. It is in an excellent location right on the harbour side close to the jetty. The shops (including an excellent little Co-op) are a couple of doors down, and the Victory Inn is only 30 yards away up the next alley. The other pubs and shops (including butcher and baker) are all within a couple of hundred yards. The cottage is quite cosy and newly decorated in a fairly minimalist style with polished floorboards and narrow wooden beams. Both the living room and the main bedroom have anexcellent view over the harbour and across the river to St Anthony's Head.
