Diggle

Final nine locks on the Diggle flight. We manage to complete it in 1 hour 10 minutes, which is apparently better than the Huddersfield Canal society's record of 1 hour 15 minutes. Leave Wool Road mooring at 9:05am and clear final lock into the Diggle Pound at 10:15am. The weather has stayed dry. A bit breezy as we climb up into the open valley, but fortunately no rain, and we even had a few sunny intervals. This section of the canal is very attractive as it climbs through open land up the side of the Tame valley with clear views of the moorland either side and the high moors ahead.

In the afternoon I took Ginger out for a longish walk up above the village along the River Tame and up to Diggle Mill right on the edge of the moorland.

Dinner at the Diggle Hotel: I had a mixed grill, which was very good, particularly the steak and the lamb chop. I actually managed to eat it all.

Afterwards pub quiz with fellow boaters courtesy of the Huddersfield Canal Society. We came 4th out of nine teams - pretty good, although we were rather let down by our poor performance on the 60s music round (the average age of the other teams was at least 10 years older than ours). And then there was some music from a fellow boater and guitarist. We eventually left the pub about half-past 12.
