Rodley to Bingley

A little light rain first thing, but dry the rest of the day - quite windy though. There are lots of swing bridges along this section of the canal, and I ended-up walking most of the first 5 miles or so. One swing bridge (by Dobsons locks) caused quite a bit of embarassement as it was quite a busy roadand we couldn't get the road gates to lock down properly. By the time we had sorted out the problem and operated the bridge there were 30-40 cars waiting. Another bridge required manual gate operation and an awful lot of windlass winding.


Salts Mill, Saltaire, West Yorkshire

After Shipley we passed through the Saltaire World Heritage Site. This is where the Victorian industrialist Titus Salt created a model town for his workforce.

Made it to Bingley, and moored just below the bottom of the 3-rise lock flight. Very nice warm, sunny evening.

Dinner at the Myrtle Grove, a fairly standard Weatherspoons offering in an interesting cinema conversion in the centre of Bingley. Unbelievably cheap beer and food.
