Got up fairly early and had some nice Chelsea buns that Dave got from the bakers on the High Street. Short walk down to the seafront and along to Southwold Pier before strolling back to the town to get more provisions for the weekend - including a fair amount of cheese from Nutters deli, some nice looking venison steak and pasties from Hutson's butchers, and a bottle of wine from the Adnams shop.
Walked down to the seafront and along the Promenade to Gun Hill, then down and along the dunes to the harbour and up Blackshore to the Harbour Inn. Stopped for a pint outside in the sunshine. Continued along the harbour, over the bridge and down the other side to Walberswick where we sat by the ferry landing and ate the excellent pasties we bought from the butchers earlier. Stopped for another pint of the very refreshing Adnams Ghost Ship pale ale at The Bell in Walberswick. Walked on through the village to the partly ruined church, and then across the heath and back along the old railway track to the bridge. Took the footpath across the marsh (a bit soggy in places) and golf course back to Southwold.
Evening: Dinner at the Sutherland House Hotel and Restaurant on the High Street. Nice venue, friendly staff and excellent food.

Total bill £142.45 for the two of us.
Afterwards had a short walk down to the sea front. Cold and very misty, but can just see the sea.
Overall, a very good birthday.
