Ipswich

East Anglia trip - day 1

Got the Greater Anglia train from Stratford to Ipswich. A fairly unremarkable trip which took not much more than an hour.

Check in at the Ramada Encore which is by the river just a short walk from the station. Very new hotel in a redeveloped area. A good business standard hotel, but a little cold and impersonal. The room was comfortable and well furnished in a Scandinavian style with wood flooring.

Took a walk into the town centre and found the tourist office. Then on to the Waterfront area. Had a burger and beer at Isaac's (Isaac Lord), an old coal merchants right on the dockside. It is a great old building (with a funky blue chimney) and a great location. Sat outside in the brilliant sunshine. The burger was OK but not brilliant. I don't think that I would eat here again, but it is a great place for a drink.

Walked a bit more around the town and then back to the docks and along the other side to the marina. Finally walked back along the river to the hotel.
