Was in the bar quite late last night, so slept rather late today. Dave and Maurice had gone out, found some lunch, and come back by the time I was ready to get up. Fortunately, I managed to do so in time to say goodbye to Maurice.
Feeling a bit wrecked, so having a very lazy day. Watched 'Curse of the Were-rabbit' - perfect afternoon viewing after a night of overindulgence.
Later in the afternoon I went out for a walk while there was still some daylight left. I managed to get a better shot of the bizzare kitchen appliance shop window that we noticed a couple of days ago (D. Engels, Paardenmarkt 38). Posted this on Facebook with the comment:
Then had a wander around the city centre but it started raining steadily so I returned to hotel.
For dinner we decided that we didn't want to trek down to the city centre (partly because of the weather), so had a look around the area immediately to the north of Willemdock. It is a slightly odd, partly regenerated dock area, but there are quite a few restaurants and bars, about half of which are open (it is New Year's Day, and a Sunday). We settle quite easily on Restaurant Zagreb (Londenstraat 6) - it looks cosy and inviting, and there are several other diners in there. We shared a large mixed Balkan grill platter (pork, beef and lamb: kebab, cutlets, sausages, chops, patties etc. - the "Zagreb Platter for 2" on the menu). Basically it is a meat feast, but it was just what we needed as we hadn't had much to eat all day. Good meat, tasty sautee potatoes and rice, all nicely washed-down with a bottle of medium-bodied Croatian red wine (Postup, which was recommended by our waitress). We managed to eat-up all of the meat and most of the veg. - including an extra portion of the excellent crispy sauteed potatoes. Total €81 (for the two of us) including a litre of water and coffee.
