The second of October, and it is 29 degrees. Yesterday was the hottest Octoer day ever at almost 30 degrees in Gravesend. Today is no different. Slighlty bizzare given that the leaves have already started falling.
Walk down to Greenwich, which is heaving, and along the river to the Cutty Sark Tavern at Ballast Quay. Quite busy here too, but there is at least enough space to sit on the river wall and enjoy a pint of George Gale's (Fuller's) Seafarers Ale - in tandem with a pint of iced tap water: something I am increasingly in the habit of doing when drinking beer in hot weather (even something like Seafarers, which is only 3.6%), and something pubs seem increasingly happy to supply.
There has been a bit of redevelopment along the riverside nearby since we were last her (about two years ago), and there is now a lot more public space along the river back towards the power station. The design is slightly odd, but it does mean that there is now a lot more space outside for drinkers, which means it is less crowded.
