Day trip to Oxford

Having got up early for the pest control guys we decided to go out for they day to Oxford. The train from Paddington was pretty crowded, but we both managed to get a seat after Reading.


Magnolia

After a stroll down the river we had a nice brunch in a cafe on St Aldate's, then found ourselves at the University of Oxford Botanic Garden. Bizzarely, this visit provided us with the answer to one of the clues in today's Indepentent crossword. Other highlights in the garden were the fantastically profusely flowering magnolia and the brilliant green new needle-like leaves of the redwood.

On the way back through the town we came across the literary festival, and caught sight of ... doing a book signing.
